Shaker Card Tutorial for Altenew's January 2018 Release Blog Hop + Giveaway

09:00

Hi Crafters,
Today I am creating a shaker card and I am thrilled to be a part of the Altenew January 2018 Release Blog Hop that features stand alone dies. I had the chance to play along with the Create a Wreath die, the Thinking of You die and the Spring Shower Cover Plate die to create some very fun cards.

In case you don’t know, standalone dies are dies that don’t have a coordinating stamp set, they simply can be used by themselves. My first card is a fun shaker card that uses the Create a Wreath die and the Thinking of You die.

You can easily alter this card by using the oval frame instead of the circle frame but I wanted the shaker card aspect to be quite small. I used little sequins by Lucy’s Cards along with beads to make the card really shake.

I arranged several pieces from the Create a Wreath die set cut out of vellum to embellish the frame. I wanted the foliage to match the shaker bits so I used a marker to colour in the leaves to get a perfect match. Sometimes you have to do that if you don’t have the exact cardstock to coordinate.

I love finding ways to make intricate cards relatively flat for mailing purposes. This card has a nice spring look to it. The cover plate is so versatile. It can be die cut to create a plain background, you can die cut the flowers to use as embellishments for your cards or you can paper piece them together like a puzzle as shown in the video

Thanks to Jennifer McGuire for the Press and Seal tip!

GIVEAWAY: To celebrate this release, I am giving away a $30 Altenew gift certificate to one lucky person that comments on my blog AND Altenew is giving away $50 gift certificates to SIX lucky winners! Please leave a comment on the Altenew Card Blog and Altenew Scrapbook Blog by Monday, January 15th for a chance to win. Six winners will be announced on the Altenew blogs on 1/17/2018.

  2. Thanks for the tip using the Press and Seal to keep those little pieces in place so one can find and use them easily. However, your technique for adhering your shaker frame directly to a large piece of acetate and then cutting it out....AMAZING! So simple and yet a huge frustration reliever. I'm definitely going to be using this tip. Have a wonderful day!
