Catherine Pooler's Zen Release Blog Hop: Stained Glass Coverplate and Faithful Flutterings

09:00

Hi Crafters,
Catherine Pooler's Zen Garden release is on it's last day of blog hops and today we are featuring the Faithful Flutterings and Stained Glass Coverplate die. Yesterday, I created a separate post for the Faithful Flutterings set (you can see that here), and today I'm focusing on the cover plate. These are definitely cards that aren't difficult, but take patience. I find puzzles calming, so this was perfect for me! I did it while watching a few episodes of tv.

Comment on each of the blogs in the hop for a chance to win 1 of 2 sets of the new 8 colours of spa inks!

For this card, I embossed the Doodle Garden background stamp onto coloured cardstock and die cut it using the cover plate. I also die cut the white cardstock and used the frame. I filled in the coloured pieces onto the cardstock in random areas using pink and the full circle using green. To create the silver smile die, I embossed it in silver embossing powder three times over to create a nice, thick sentiment.

These two cards may look the same, but they aren't. I used the positive space frame of each colour and glued them onto the cardstock. The blue cardstock has a textured frame with spaces in each of the white spaces. On the pink frame, I filled in the gaps using the white pieces so it's all one layer. I added a Thanks and Smile die to the fronts.

I wanted to see how a black frame would contrast the colours and it turned out so stunning. I used leftover pieces from the green, pink and blue pieces to fill three circles. I also embossed the sentiment using some Wanderlust embossing powder.

  27. Fabulous video - - it does result in several gorgeous cards. I like the THANKS card, where the colored inlaid pieces don't line up to the doodle garden - - it makes it look more like a stained glass. Nicely done.

  34. Love the cards. I have no luck glueing die cut pieces back into a die cut cover plate. The glue gets all over the front and most time I lose pieces and get frustrated. Well done to you.

  38. You know, I would have thought that the zen garden background would have been too busy to pair with the coverplate, but you proved me wrong! I think it's because you didn't fill in the whole thing, but instead kept it certain highlighted shapes. I really like how the cards are both soft with lots of curves, but also highly geometric. That's a cool intersection. Thanks for sharing! (And go take a nap! You must not have slept for the last week with all the bloghops you were part of and putting together!)

  39. All of you cards are gorgeous. Love how you didn't go overboard with color but kept in just in certain places. It's a great look!
